Role Summary

A Junior System Administrator is responsible for supporting the organization’s IT infrastructure, ensuring system reliability, and assisting with day-to-day operations. This entry-level role involves monitoring systems, addressing technical issues, and maintaining IT assets while developing a strong foundation in system administration.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor server performance, network activity, and system logs to ensure uptime and stability.
  • Assist in performing routine maintenance tasks, such as updates, backups, and patches.
  • Ensure antivirus and security protocols are up-to-date and functioning correctly.
  • Provide first-level support for hardware, software, and network issues.
  • Respond to and resolve help desk tickets in a timely manner.
  • Assist users with troubleshooting login, connectivity, and application-related problems.
  • Help in configuring and deploying workstations, laptops, and other IT equipment.
  • Assist with the installation and setup of software applications and services.
  • Maintain an inventory of IT assets and track equipment assignments.
  • Support basic network operations, including monitoring routers, switches, and access points.
  • Assist in implementing security measures, such as firewalls, VPNs, and access controls.
  • Ensure compliance with IT policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of configurations, system changes, and support incidents.
  • Document common issues and create troubleshooting guides for end-users.
  • Assist in generating reports on system performance and incident resolution.
  • Stay updated on new technologies, tools, and best practices in system administration.
  • Participate in training sessions to enhance technical skills and knowledge.
  • Shadow senior administrators to gain hands-on experience in advanced tasks.
  • Work on software development projects that will be assigned from time to time

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 1-2 years of experience working in an IT department, with a focus on system administration and security.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows and/or Linux server administration.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V
  • Experience in bash command
  • Experience in TCP and UDP Protocols
  • Familiarity with network protocols, routing, and switching.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity principles and best practices.
  • Experience with security tools and technologies such as firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and antivirus software.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledgeable in HTML, Javascript, Python, SQL
